Just My Thoughts on...taking that first step... We are each filled with so many wonderful dreams; dreams that we long to have become a reality for us. Dreams about our future, dreams about our careers, dreams about our relationships, enough dreams to last a lifetime! So, how do we make all of our dreams come true? How do we make what at times seem like an impossibility a possibility? I believe with all of my heart and soul that the way to making our dreams come true is to focus upon our dream and patiently pursue what ever it is that our heart desires. The magic word here is patience; remember Rome wasn’t built in a day! However, you have to take that first step because if you don’t take that first step, if you don’t do something to make your dream come true then it will remain just a dream. You and you alone will be the one to make your dreams come true. That’s why it is so very important that you take that first step towards your dream, and then you have to take another step, and another, and another. I promise that if you do that you will move closer and closer until one day your dream will no longer be a dream it will be a reality. I know how hard it is to take that first step. I know the thoughts that run through your mind. I know you might feel insecure. I know that you may feel inadequate – not quite good enough. I know how that little voice in your head tends to discourage you. We all fear taking that first step, but if you don’t try you will never know. My problem has always been the patience part. I can take that first step but then I want everything to happen instantly and I get very disappointed if it doesn’t. When I send off one of my children’s stories to a publisher I want to hear back instantly! I don’t want to have to wait weeks or months; but the reality is that I do have to wait weeks or months. But, each time I send off a story to a publisher I am moving that much closer to my dream of becoming a well- known children’s author and I’m not about to give up because I believe in myself. If I never took that first step, if I never sent out a manuscript because I thought it wouldn’t get published then I would never realize my dream. So, I keep taking one step after another and I know one day my dream will come true. You see knowing that you will accomplish your dream is what drives you to succeed. It is like our spirits know and they won’t let us give up! Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” I could relate to what he said. Because you see I do want to know the outcome; I do want to know what is at the top of the stairs for me. But, he was right, “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” And, the truth is that as we journey through life we don’t see the whole staircase, we just take one step at a time. Because, we are not given a glimpse into our future and we have no idea where the staircase will lead us. Who knows maybe the staircase leads to something even greater than we imagined in our dream of our future! If you are afraid to pursue your dreams cast away your fear and take that first step – you’ll be happy that you did. The first step is always the hardest but it will bring you great joy, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. Take that first step and know that you will succeed in fulfilling your dream. Take that first step even though you can’t see the whole staircase and remember your spirit will not let you give up. Your spirit knows that you can and will make the impossible possible and that the outcome will be even greater and grander than you could ever have imagined! Just take that first step! ...Kindness can change the world... ...Understanding is a gift of love... ...Compassion is a gift from the heart and laughter is a gift from the soul...
